From the vocals to the melodies to even the album’s sequencing, there’s a lot to like about this California band, though it’s going to be tough for singer David Fisher to live down the Raul Malo/Roy Orbison comparisons, and guitarist Scott Minchk is going to get sick of hearing about the Chris Isaak Silvertone syndrome (give a listen to “Dreamin’ Of A Woman”). But there’s no artifice: It’s clear the band, rounded out by J. B. Burton on bass and Greg Sobol on drums, simply sounds like this, and that’s not only welcome, it’s an impressive accomplishment. The band shakes it out on the riffy “Feel So Right” and “Don’t Mind Messin’”, two of the catchiest tunes on a disc full of catchy tunes.
