Eddie Spaghetti, singer of such glorious sleaze as “Ron’s Got The Cocaine”, “She’s My Bitch” and “Born With A Tail”, has never been accused of taking himself too seriously. But as was the case with his recent solo debut The Sauce — and on the Supersuckers’ country recordings, with a few exceptions — Spaghetti shows on his latest solo outing that he’s quite capable of playing fun and loose without being overly jokey. After picking mostly country classics to cover on The Sauce, Spaghetti has selected more obscure tracks here, highlighted by the AC/DC nugget “Carry Me Home”, which is all kinds of a boozy/bluesy/trashy good time. He also offers a nicely carefree take on Tom Waits’ “I Don’t Want To Grow Up” and pulls off the high level of cool necessary for the Coasters’ “Hey Sexy”, putting his own stamp on it in the process. The road ode “Here We Go” is the best of four Spaghetti originals. Jordan Shapiro’s dobro, pedal steel and assorted guitar work serve as a not-so-secret weapon.
